I was delighted when Mia contacted me to arrange a maternity photoshoot this summer. It’s wonderful to capture that precious time before baby arrives. We decided to meet at Forest Fawr in Cardiff, to shelter from the heatwave (remember that!) among the apple trees. Luckily Mia and her husband Ramone are from sunnier climes, so they were not too unconformable in the heat.
If you have never been the Forest Farm before, I highly recommend it. It’s such an oasis, you won’t believe you’re right in the heart of the city. The Friends of Forest Farm have done an amazing job in restoring the area around the Glamorganshire canal. It’s a great place to visit with the family, and it’s the perfect place for a maternity photoshoot.
Aren’t they the most beautiful couple!
Before the session I reached out to Mia to see if she would like to wear a flower crown. She loved the idea so I took some lavender from my garden together with some foraged foliage to make one. It smelt as good as it looked.
Posing is not something that is easy for most people, it can be daunting when someone is taking photos of you. To make it easier for Mia and Ramone I gave them some suggestions on how to pose, but then I let them be themselves. That way you can see the real connection between these parents-to-be.
After getting some images in the orchard we wondered up to the canal, Mia was 39 weeks so we took it slowly, we didn’t want it to turn into a newborn session!
Sessions like these are my favourite. It’s wonderful to be out in the countryside, letting loved ones enjoy time together whist I capture memories for them.
If you are expecting a little one soon and would like to arrange a maternity shoot, get in touch with me and I’ll be happy to help.
